Wardlow Park Picnic and Open Space Area Rules

Looking for a place to have a family picnic or barbecue? Well, look no further. Wardlow Park has beautiful picnic areas with plenty of shade. Come check out our new playground equipment! The kids can have fun playing in two playgrounds, or playing basketball or roller hockey on our lighted courts. We also have two softball fields and a soccer field available for pick-up games. If you want to take your party inside, call 570-3111 to find out how to rent our spacious community center.

History

The land was dedicated to Los Angeles County with the surrounding subdivision in the early 1950's, and Los Angeles County constructed the park. Long Beach took over the maintenance and operation of the park on January 1, 1956. A park development plan was approved by the City Council on April 8, 1958. The County Board of Supervisors transferred title to the park December 3, 1958. Improvements include a community recreation center with a large multi purpose room, kitchen and a classroom, softball field, baseball field, soccer field, volleyball court, and playgrounds. Baseball field lights were added and fields renovated in 1996, and the playgrounds redeveloped in 1997 with Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Act of 1992 funds. American's with Disabilities Act accessibility improvements were made in 2004 with funding from Community Development Block Grants.
