The parkland was obtained through the Alamitos Bay Boundary Settlement Agreement of 1968. A community-supported passive park design with a Marina Basin was approved.
The adjacent Basin 8 of the Alamitos Bay Marina was completed in 2003 with 30 boat slips with an access road, parking lot, boat owners’ restroom and laundry room. Park landscaping, benches, walkways and security lighting were completed and the park opened to the public in August of 2007.
The park is named for Jack Nichol, a local coastal engineer, with a worldwide renowned in the design of marinas, and an active member and chairman of the Marine Advisory Commission.
