The East Village Arts Park, a unique pocket park and showcase for local art. The park was a collaborative effort with the City of Long Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Department of Community Development Redevelopment Bureau, Second District Councilmember Dan Baker, the Public Corporation for the Arts, the East Village Association and local artists. 

The park inches the Department forward towards the goal in the newly updated Open Space Element of the City's General Plan set a goal to acquire 1,000 new acres of park land in the City to raise the number of acres for every thousand people to eight. In 1973 there were seven acres per thousand and now with population increases, the ratio has shrunk to 5.6 acres per thousand people.

History

This park was purchased from the Metropolitan Transit Agency as excess property from a power station for the Blue Line Light Rail Line in September 1999. The park was designed for community art related events, and opened March 16, 2004. The park includes a raised stage area, a seating area with overhead trellis and a display/work area. Works by East Village artists in the park include the entry gates, and mosaic surfacing on the stage, and benches. The park was a collaborative effort with the City of Long Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Department of Community Development Redevelopment Bureau, Second District Council Office, the Public Corporation for the Arts, the East Village Association and local artists.
