Information

Officer Daryle W. Black was fatally wounded on April 29, 2000 in the line of duty. City Councilwoman Laura Richardson and area community groups, including the Central Neighborhood Advisory Committee led the effort to turn a .1-acre lot into a park as a fitting tribute to Officer Black. The park located at 2023 Pasadena Avenue is being named in honor of Officer Black who regularly patrolled the neighborhood and was a positive influence in the lives of many local young people.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency are jointly funding the $200,000 project with Central Long Beach Redevelopment Project Area and General Purpose Funds.

The new park will include grass and landscaping, lighting, fencing, a playground, picnic table and benches and a water fountain. The park replaces a dilapidated 12-unit apartment complex that once stood on the lot. Officer Daryle W. Black Memorial Park is scheduled for completion and dedication in the summer of 2005.
