History
Birdcage Park is part of the original Heartwell Park area. When the Heartwell Park Golf Course was built, the golf course did not extend to Parkcrest Street, leaving the one-acre site along Parkcrest undeveloped. The park was developed as a mini-park, with playground and picnic areas, and because of the high fence separating it from the golf course (to protect users and neighborhoods from golf balls) and the fence separating it from the Los Cerritos Channel box culvert, the area seems like an enclosed Birdcage.
