
Free Virtual After School Programs

Long Beach, CA - Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is offering another safe option for after-school activities and social interaction. The new virtual out-of-school program, for youth ages 5 to 14, will be available weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 19 through Dec. 18.
The free program will offer home-based activities for children ages 5 to 14 with live interaction with recreation staff, academic support, dance, art, trivia and much more. Two modules will be offered: one for elementary school-aged children and another for middle school-aged youth, ensuring that activities and peer engagement correspond with the participant’s current grade level.
Registration for the program is required and will be available online or in person beginning Thursday, Oct. 15. Online registration will be available on the PRM website starting at 8 a.m. In-person registration will be available at the following locations as listed below:
- Thursday, Oct. 15, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Ave.
- McBride Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
- Veterans Park, 101 E. 28th St.
- Friday, Oct. 16, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Bixby Park, 130 Cherry Ave.
- Heartwell Park, 5801 E. Parkcrest St.
- Belmont Pool, 4320 E. Olympic Plaza
Online Registration starts at 8am on October 15th.

In July 2020, the Long Beach City Council approved a spending plan for the City’s Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds, which allocated $500,000 in funding to support recreation and enrichment programs for youth. The Virtual Out-of-School program has been made possible through this funding.
