9 Local Artists and Mural Concepts Selected for City’s Public Mural Program 9/16/2024 The City of Long Beach has announced the selection of nine local artists and their mural concepts for its Public Mural Program, part of the City's Creative Economy Grants Program that is funded by the Long Beach Recovery Act and administered by the Arts Council for Long Beach (ArtsLB). Long Beach’s Sidewalk to Success to Offer Free Food Carts for Eligible Vendors 8/22/2024 The City of Long Beach has launched the next phase of its Sidewalk to Success program and is now accepting applications for its food cart giveaway initiative for eligible sidewalk vendors. The Sidewalk to Success program, which provides assistance to achieve compliance while easing the financial burden for small businesses during the first year the City’s Sidewalk Vending Ordinance is in effect, will provide up to 40 free carts to local sidewalk food vendors who meet eligibility requirements. View full press release here.

City of Long Beach Launches Inclusive Business Navigator Microgrant Program 7/29/2024 The City of Long Beach, through the Long Beach Recovery Act, is launching microgrants to support startups and micro-entrepreneurs with access to small amounts of capital to launch or grow their business. City of Long Beach Launches Electric Bicycle Lending Library Program 3/18/2024 The City of Long Beach is launching the application period for its Electric Bicycle (E-Bike) Lending Library program, a new initiative that will allow residents to borrow E-bikes for up to three months at no cost. The program will provide education on E-bike technology, encourage E-bike ridership, and promote an active zero-emission mode of travel. In alignment with the City’s focus on equity, the program will allocate 24 of the E-bikes to residents who are enrolled in a qualifying federal or state assistance program and the remaining E-bikes will be available for all Long Beach residents.  View full press release here.

City of Long Beach Passes New Ordinance Regulating Sidewalk Vending 1/29/2024  In an effort to support entrepreneurial and business development opportunities in the city while protecting public health, safety and ADA access, during its Jan. 23, 2024, meeting, the Long Beach City Council approved with a 9 to 0 vote a new sidewalk vending ordinance. Long Beach Pledge, Guaranteed Income Pilot Program Expansion Application Now Open 1/10/2024 The City of Long Beach has launched the application period for the expansion of the Long Beach Pledge, the City’s guaranteed income pilot program. The program will provide $500 a month for 12 months to 200 additionally funded households, utilizing $1.2 million in funding to support the City’s upstream homeless prevention efforts. City Seeks Partner to Operate a Mobile Healthy Food Market in Long Beach 1/10/2024 The City of Long Beach is seeking a partner to implement and operate a Mobile Healthy Food Market in Long Beach. The goal of the Mobile Healthy Food Market is to increase access to affordable fresh produce in neighborhoods defined as having poor food access as well as increase opportunities for residents to be connected to other services and resources that address the social determinants of health and improve health outcomes. This re-release of a previous RFP now requires that the selected vendor will be required to procure and/or retrofit an existing vehicle to turn it into a Mobile Healthy Food Market. Long Beach Pledge Guaranteed Income Pilot Program to Expand with Second Cohort 12/7/2023 This January, the City of Long Beach will open applications to expand its guaranteed income pilot program, known as the Long Beach Pledge, to include a second cohort of 200 additionally funded households. This expansion will be available to households with children living under the federal poverty level in five Long Beach zip codes. Those selected for the Long Beach Pledge will receive $500 a month for 12 months. The online application for the second cohort will be available in early January at longbeachpledge.org/apply and will be available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog.  View full press release here.

Long Beach Celebrates Small Business Saturday with Citywide Launch of Shop LB Program 11/14/2023 The City of Long Beach celebrated the citywide launch of its Shop Long Beach (Shop LB) program, a citywide initiative to support small businesses and strengthen the local economy by offering customer rewards for shopping at registered Long Beach businesses. Long Beach-Based Nonprofit Selected to Establish Community Land Trust 9/22/2023 At its Sept. 12, 2023, meeting, the Long Beach City Council awarded a contract to Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs, a fiscal sponsor for Long Beach Residents Empowered (LiBRE), to establish and operate a Community Land Trust (CLT). Long Beach Offering Community Learning Hubs and Mobile Recess Programs to Provide Safe and Engaging Recreation for Youth After School 8/25/2023

The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will once again offer its Community Learning Hubs and Mobile Recess Programs this fall. The Community Learning Hubs Program offers enriching after-school activities for Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) students ages 5 to 14. . The Mobile Recess Program offers safe, supervised spaces for youth to play. Community Invited to Participate in Youth-led Tours of Long Beach’s North, West and Washington Neighborhoods 8/25/2023 For the second year, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) Office of Youth Development, in partnership with the Youth Leadership Institute, will host the My Hood, My City program’s youth-led neighborhood tours in the North, West and Washington neighborhoods in late August and early September. City of Long Beach Awards Business Credits to Local Businesses Through Long Beach Fresh Start Program 5/10/2023 The City of Long Beach announced the completion of awarded business credits to local businesses through its Fresh Start Program, a Long Beach Recovery Act funded initiative to provide financial relief to select Long Beach businesses. The program provided a one-time credit of up to $599 per business, and a total of over $930,000 in awards to 1,790 Long Beach businesses that have outstanding business license tax or fees, Health Department fees, or Fire Department fee balances with the City in sectors highly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. City of Long Beach Launches Micro-Transit Shuttle Program for Downtown and Alamitos Beach Areas 11/22/2022 The City of Long Beach launched its electric-powered shuttle service for the Downtown Long Beach – Alamitos Beach neighborhoods as part of the Micro-Transit Shuttle program. This is the second and final fleet of electric-powered shuttles, which will operate Thursdays through Sundays*, and are intended to support mobility programs for economic recovery, promote non-automotive transportation modes for trips under three miles and alleviate parking impacts by connecting to nearby underutilized parking lots.

In addition to the application extension, the deadline for applying organizations to obtain a business license (a requirement for grant eligibility) has been extended to July 15, 2022. City Launches Request for Proposals to Implement Digital Inclusion Resources and Services 2/7/2022 As part of the City of Long Beach’s ongoing effort in addressing digital inequities and advancing digital equity and inclusion in Long Beachthe Economic Development Department (ED), in collaboration with the Technology and Innovation Department (TID), have launched two Request for Proposals (RFPs) for organizations to implement digital inclusion resources and services, including distributing internet hotspots and computing devices and offering computer literacy training to communities most impacted by the digital divide stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. Long Beach to Offer Community Learning Hubs for Youth 12/17/2021 Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will continue offering after school programs that safely engage youth and support learning and access to recreational opportunities throughout the winter months. Both the Community Learning Hub Program and After School Program begin Jan. 3 and will run weekdays through April 15. All Adults Now Eligible for COVID-19 Booster 11/16/2021
