City Encourages Residents to Shop Local by Participating in Small Business Saturday 11/22/2022 The City of Long Beach is encouraging residents to support local businesses by participating in Small Business Saturday, taking place on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022. As the holiday shopping season officially kicks off, the City is launching a social media campaign to promote shopping local and encourage people to discover local businesses and will also offer free metered parking at multiple shopping areas in Long Beach.

City of Long Beach Launches Micro-Transit Shuttle Program for Downtown and Alamitos Beach Areas 11/22/2022 The City of Long Beach launched its electric-powered shuttle service for the Downtown Long Beach – Alamitos Beach neighborhoods as part of the Micro-Transit Shuttle program. This is the second and final fleet of electric-powered shuttles, which will operate Thursdays through Sundays*, and are intended to support mobility programs for economic recovery, promote non-automotive transportation modes for trips under three miles and alleviate parking impacts by connecting to nearby underutilized parking lots.

Long Beach Pledge – Guaranteed Income Pilot Application Now Open 11/18/2022 The City of Long Beach launched the application period for the Long Beach Pledge, the City’s guaranteed income pilot program. The program will provide $500 a month for 12 months to 250 families with children who live in the 90813 zip code, are below 100% of the federal poverty line and have one income earner for their household. The application is open for eligible residents now through Jan. 17, 2023, at 4:59 p.m. (PST).

Long Beach Launches the Mental Health Matters Awareness Campaign 11/17/2022 The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) launched Mental Health Matters, its mental health awareness campaign. The campaign seeks to normalize and destigmatize mental health and improve access and connection to mental health supports in Long Beach.

City Launches Long Beach Collaboratory Smart City Initiative Program 11/7/2022 The City of Long Beach launched its new Smart City Initiative program, the Long Beach Collaboratory (LB Co-Lab), to engage residents with civic technology design and equip them with technology skills to thrive in our “smart” economy. The LB Co-Lab will engage local Long Beach stakeholders in a collaborative community engagement process to scope and implement a pilot technology project.

Long Beach Launches Recovery Act Data Dashboard 11/1/2022 The City of Long Beach has launched the Recovery Data Dashboard, a new tool for Long Beach community members to track spending and key performance and equity metrics related to the Long Beach Recovery Act.The Recovery Data Dashboard is part of the City’s efforts towards enhancing transparency for the Long Beach Recovery Act to ensure a results-driven, equitable and transparent approach to Recovery funding.

City of Long Beach Launches New Website for First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program 10/31/2022 The City of Long Beach launched a new website for its upcoming First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program (Program), which will provide approximately 100 eligible families with up to $20,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance. The application process for qualified residents is expected to open in early 2023.

City of Long Beach Invites Residents to Participate in Youth-led Tours of the North, West and Washington Neighborhoods 10/14/2022 The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) Office of Youth Development, in partnership with the Youth Leadership Institute, will host My Hood, My City program’s youth-led neighborhood tours at the end of October in the North, West and Washington neighborhoods. City Seeks Partner for City of Long Beach Employees Youth Mentoring Program 10/7/2022 The City of Long Beach is seeking a partner organization to facilitate a citywide mentoring program connecting Long Beach middle school students with City employees. The program will serve students from middle schools in neighborhoods affected by disproportionate amounts of violence, poverty and COVID-19 impacts.The RFP was released on Sept. 30. Community Organizations to Launch Promotora Programs 8/19/2022

City Seeks Proposals for Partners to Help Generate $1M in Additional Spending for Local Businesses 7/29/2022 The City of Long Beach is seeking organizations to partner with the City’s Department of Economic Development to develop and implement citywide solutions through its ActivateLB program to increase customer spending by $1 million at Long Beach small businesses and support their economic recovery. The ActivateLB program’s Request for Proposals (RFP) is open through 11 a.m. on August 30, 2022, on the City’s vendor portal: Long Beach Buys. This is a challenge-based procurement, and the City is looking for vendors to propose solutions that can meet program goals. City Partners with CSULB LifeFit Center to Offer Exercise Class Programs for Older Adults 7/12/2022 The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM), in partnership with California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) LifeFit Center @ The Beach, is launching a new exercise class program to provide evidence-based physical activity programming for older adults. The exercise class program supports the City’s Age-Friendly Initiative and emphasizes helping seniors maintain their independence and aging well at home. The program, funded by the Long Beach Recovery Act to support older adults impacted during the pandemic, will be held Thursdays at the McBride Park Senior Center and Tuesdays at the Chavez Park Senior Center from 11 to11:50 a.m. starting July 19 and July 21, respectively. Long Beach Launches New Procurement Software, Long Beach Buys 6/8/2022 The City of Long Beach has launched Long Beach Buys, a new purchasing platform and marketplace that is free for all businesses and organizations seeking to do business with the City. The new procurement software positions the City to more effectively engage with local, diverse and disadvantaged businesses and facilitates the lowering of barriers for prospective businesses to contract with the City with easy-to-use technology, a landing page and instructions available in multiple languages, and an expeditious vendor onboarding process. City Resumes the Digital Inclusion Resources Hotline 5/12/2022 The Hotline connects the Long Beach community to digital inclusion resources, services and language interpretation services.Hotline resources are available by calling 562.570.7000 or by emailing digitalinclusion@longbeach.gov.   A team of digital inclusion navigators will be available via email and by phone on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to direct residents and business owners to information about free and low-cost internet services, computing devices, digital literacy training, and more. One-on-one assistance and language interpretation services will be available for callers in English and Spanish through the digital inclusion navigators, with language interpretation services in Khmer and Tagalog available upon request. View press release here.

The City of Long Beach has launched a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a vendor to provide a micro-shuttle service to support tourism, businesses and local revenue generation. The selected vendor will pilot an on-demand and fixed-route pick-up and drop-off electric-powered shuttle service for business districts, amenities, services and businesses in the Belmont Shore/Alamitos Bay and Downtown/Alamitos Beach neighborhoods to better circulate visitors throughout each service area. Application Extended for Long Beach Nonprofit Relief Grant Program 4/26/2022 Long Beach, CA – The application deadline for the Long Beach Recovery Act Nonprofit Relief Grant Program has been extended from May 15 to June 15, 2022. In addition to the application extension, the deadline for applying organizations to obtain a business license (a requirement for grant eligibility) has been extended to July 15, 2022. The Nonprofit Relief Grant Program provides assistance to small nonprofits in Long Beach that have experienced financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now until 8 p.m. on June 15, 2022, eligible nonprofits can apply to receive working capital from $5,000 and to up to $25,000 to help pay for a variety of business expenses. View press release here.

Long Beach Expands LB Resource Line, a City Hotline Connecting Residents with Local Community Resources 4/21/2022 Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach has expanded its LB Resource Line, an informational hotline that provides free and confidential support to anyone who lives, works, learns or plays in Long Beach and needs assistance finding and accessing local community resources and social services. The LB Resource Line launched in March 2020 during the COVID-19 Safer-At-Home health orders to connect older adults to critical pandemic-related information, resources and services. The line has now expanded its services to provide support to all Long Beach residents, and callers can now connect in real time with a professionally trained Resource Navigator for support. View press release here.

City Launches Request for Proposals to Implement the Long Beach Guaranteed Income Pilot Program for Select Long Beach Residents 2/17/2022 The City of Long Beach today launched a Request for Proposals (RFP), seeking qualified vendors to implement and administer the Long Beach Guaranteed Income Pilot Program (Pilot), a pilot program that will provide a select number of Long Beach families living at or below the poverty line and residing in the 90813 zip code, which has the highest concentration of families living in poverty within the city, the opportunity to receive up to $500 a month for 12 months.
