City of Long Beach Launches New Restorative Engagement to Achieve Collective Health (REACH) Outreach Teams to Help People Experiencing Homelessness 7/22/2021 The Department of Health and Human Services will lead two newly formed, coordinated outreach teams to help people in Long Beach who are experiencing homelessness. The Restorative Engagement to Achieve Collective Health (REACH) outreach teams will focus on physical and mental health as part of their outreach efforts.

City of Long Beach to Open 102-Room Interim Housing Site for People Transitioning to Permanent Housing Solutions 3/12/2021 The City of Long Beach, on March 15, 2021, will begin to operate 102-rooms of interim housing to provide temporary housing for people working to transition to permanent housing solutions. The site is converted from a former Best Western hotel in the 1700 block of Long Beach Boulevard, and was made possible through the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development's (HCD) Homekey Program.

City Council Approves Contract for 2020-2021 Winter Shelter 11/18/2020 Yesterday, the Long Beach City Council approved an agreement that allows Volunteers of America Los Angeles to operate a temporary shelter from Oct. 1, 2020, through April 1, 2021, at 5571 Orange Ave., a City-owned property. This agreement formalizes the informal agreement that allowed the shelter to open earlier than usual, due to the County's shelter crisis and the ongoing public health emergency. The program is funded by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA).
Long Beach Acquires Property for Use as Temporary Housing for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness 11/18/2020 The Long Beach City Council yesterday voted unanimously to approve the acquisition of a property located at 1725 Long Beach Blvd., which will serve as transitional housing, helping to address a critical gap in the City’s Continuum of Care (CoC) and offering a safe place and supportive services for people who are experiencing homelessness.

City Unveils New Atlantic Farms Bridge Housing Community in North Long Beach 10/1/2020 Today, via livestream, the City of Long Beach unveiled the new Atlantic Farms Bridge Housing Community (ABC). The village-style development, located at 6841-6845 Atlantic Ave. in North Long Beach, will help address a critical gap in the City’s Continuum of Care and offer a safe place and supportive resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Awarded Project Homekey Funding 9/30/2020 The City of Long Beach has been awarded nearly $16.7 million funding for Project Homekey, California’s $600 million program to purchase and rehabilitate housing – including hotels, motels, vacant apartment buildings and other properties – and convert them into permanent, long-term housing for people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. 
Long Beach Sees A Year-Over-Year Increase in Population Experiencing Homelessness 6/12/2020 Long Beach, CA - The findings of the 2020 Point-in-Time Homeless Count (Count) reveal that Long Beach identified 2,034 people experiencing homelessness in January 2020, compared with 1,894 people in 2019. While this number signifies a 7% increase from last year, the City’s homeless population remains 29% below the 2013 count.
