LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), the nation’s preeminent organization of city leaders that engages directly with the President and Congress to address the needs of America’s cities. He will serve alongside other innovative mayors from across the country to shape the organization’s vision and agenda.
“Mayors are on the front lines of the most pressing challenges facing our local communities today,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “I am honored to join the Advisory Board of this impactful organization, which represents the voice of more than 1,400 cities across America. By working together and learning from one another, we can overcome big challenges.”
Richardson has previously served as president of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), the largest regional planning agency in America and is a recognized leader and champion for racial equity in local government. As a member of the Advisory Board, Mayor Richardson will help steer the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ policy and advocacy efforts on key issues such as housing affordability, climate resilience, and racial justice.
Mayor Richardson joins eight more new USCM Advisory Board Members, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. The nine new members are as follows:
The Advisory Board Members were elected as part of the USCM’s new leadership team at a business meeting of the Conference, which also marked the close of the organization’s 91st annual meeting. More than 300 mayors from across America gathered in Columbus, Ohio for the weekend’s session.
