Mayor Rex Richardson

Rex Richardson is the 29th Mayor of Long Beach, where he leads Elevate 28, the largest infrastructure investment program in the city’s history, preparing Long Beach for the 2028 Olympic Games and beyond. He also champions Grow Long Beach, a long-term strategy to drive inclusive economic growth across key industries.

A recognized housing leader, Richardson serves as Chair of the Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency and as Mayoral Co-Chair of Mayors and CEOs for U.S. Housing Investment, a bipartisan coalition advancing housing access nationwide. He previously served as President of the Southern California Association of Governments, the nation’s largest metropolitan planning organization.

On the national stage, Richardson serves on the Advisory Board of the United States Conference of Mayors, where he helps shape policy solutions that strengthen cities across America.

Throughout his career, he has worked alongside neighborhood leaders to expand opportunity, improve public safety, and deliver vital community investments.

Richardson and his wife, Dr. Nina Richardson, are raising their two young daughters, Alina and Mila, in North Long Beach. He believes every resident—no matter their circumstance—deserves the opportunity to thrive.

LONG BEACH — Today, Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued the following joint statement:

“For nearly 20 years, the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have worked with all stakeholders to reduce emissions from port operations and we remain committed to continuing to decrease emissions to clean the air, and demonstrate that by collaborating with our partners and our communities, our ports can continue to grow and grow green.”

LONG BEACH, CA — Mayor Rex Richardson announced today that comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, Samuel “Skip” and Beth Keesal, and Rev. Dr. Leon and Paula Wood will be the recipients of the 2024 Keys to the City.

“Each of these extraordinary people represent the best of Long Beach, whether it be through philanthropy, service to the community, or representing our city to the world at large,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “We are thrilled to celebrate their contributions to our community.”

LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson announced today a series of events, dubbed “Long Beach Housing Innovation Week,” showcasing the innovative work that the City of Long Beach is undertaking to address the regionwide affordable housing crisis. Taking place between May 6th and May 10th, events include a roundtable on affordable housing, establishing a youth right to housing, and the announcement of the 2024 Homelessness Point-in-Time Count results.
