Teen Café @ Dana Neighborhood Library


The Dana Neighborhood Library is the proud recipient of a Pitch-an-Idea Mini Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to expand programs for the energetic, thriving, and diverse teen population in Long Beach.

This project restructures the Teen Café after school program and promotes activities that enhance social and educational skills through recreational activities.

Teen Café provides age appropriate video games and board games such as chess, checkers, and scrabble, as well as learning experiences with 3D printing and Eyewitness science casting and molding crafts, reflecting a variety of teen interests. The programs and workshops also enhance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills and builds teamwork in a positive and nurturing environment for teen.

Teen Café programs include:

  • Educational and recreational games
  • Learning about resources in the LBPL Digital Library, including Brainfuse, Mango Languages, and how to download eBooks
  • After school homework help
  • Learning origami
  • Essay contests
  • Making greeting cards for family and friends
  • Flying paper airplanes
  • Volunteering to read to children at the library
  • Learning how to use a manual camera
  • Collaging out of old magazines
  • Karaoke singing contests
  • Escape room scavenger hunts
  • Handmade jewelry workshops
  • Learning how to hula-hoop
  • Desserts raffle
  • Grinchmas holiday party 
  • and more!

The Teen Café after school program at the Dana Neighborhood Library is held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. All teens are welcome!
