The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) is pleased to invite the community to the official unveiling ceremony of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Courtyard on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library.

The event will feature remarks by Mayor Rex Richardson, Ninth District Councilmember Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie, and representatives from Department of Library, Arts, and Culture, followed by a ceremonial ribbon cutting and open use of the new courtyard space.

A short program, music, and refreshments will be offered. Community members can also participate in a guided walkthrough of the space. We'll highlight exciting additions like the native plantings, StoryWalk, and a plant bed for educational programs.

If you can't attend, check out the Library website after for a virtual tour of the courtyard!

The Michelle Obama Library Courtyard renovation project was made possible through the generous support and collaboration of community partners, including the Long Beach Conservation Corps, the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, the Port of Long Beach, and the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library.
