Burnett Neighborhood Library will undergo an energy efficiency upgrade. The branch will temporarily close from Monday, April 21, through Saturday, May 17.

Celebration of the Young Child

The City of Long Beach will host the sixth annual Celebration of the Young Child (COTYC) from 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway) and the adjacent Lincoln Park.

This free event provides hands-on activities and showcases vendors who provide services and resources for children up to 8 years old. All families are welcome to attend to learn about various available resources and engage in fun, family-friendly entertainment.

Information booths from local and regional education centers will be set up outside on the library terrace with educational handouts that promote healthy child development and resources for parents. Early intervention resources and screenings will also be provided free of charge to families with children who may benefit from them. The following Early Intervention screenings (PDF) will be offered:

  • California State University, Long Beach - Speech and Language Clinic Articulation
  • For the Child – Developmental
  • University of California, Los Angeles – Mobile Eye Clinic
  • Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) - Vaccination Clinic

This year's event will include a performance by the high energy and fun group Kids Imagine Nation, a storytime from speech pathologist Mika Storey, and more. Additional activities include music and movement for toddlers and preschool-aged children hosted by Library staff, read-aloud storytimes, a sensory exploration area, and other educational hands-on activities.

Free parking will be available in the Civic Center parking garage (332 W. Broadway) located at the corner of Broadway and Chestnut Avenue.
