Reading Challenges

Explore familiar stories, discover new favorites, and earn prizes for what you already love to do: reading! Get in on the fun by signing up for Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) reading challenges.

Getting Started

  1. Register for a Beanstack account online or pick up a reading log at any LBPL location.
  2. Join a reading challenge (or two)!
  3. Log your reading, activities, and write book reviews.
  4. Earn badges and redeem prizes at any LBPL location.
  5. Download the Beanstack mobile app to make tracking your reading even easier.

The Challenges

50 Book Challenge
Jan. 1 – Dec. 31

Read 50 books in 2024 and log them using Beanstack. Pick books from our challenge list in the Activity Badges tab or choose any book you like. You can even write reviews!

Dive Into Learning
Ongoing

Got a little one ages 0 to 5? Join Dive Into Learning, our early learning program, at the Long Beach Public Library. Dive Into Learning encourages families to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten, provides activities and workshops to get little ones ready for school, and supports caregivers as their children’s first teachers.

KOALA Quest: 500 Books Before Middle School

Are you KOALA-fied? Read 500 Books Before Middle School! Log your reading to earn badges and prizes along the way. Those who reach the 500-book milestone will be celebrated with a congratulatory pizza social.

Summer Reading Program

The annual Summer Reading Program (SRP) invites readers of all ages to read, complete activities, and enjoy special events and programs at all 12 LBPL locations. Kids ages 0 to 12 can earn prizes for every 5 books they read, and teens and adults can earn a prize for every book they complete. There's also opportunities for readers of all ages to win in the Grand Prize drawings at the end of the summer.

Yeti, Set, READ: A Winter Reading Challenge

Cozy up on the couch and dive into a winter reading adventure with the Library! Kids who complete 5 of the 10 books in the challenge will a prize, while those who conquer 10 books will earn a special prize and qualify to enter a raffle for the grand prizes.
