LB Reads
LB Reads is a one-on-one literacy tutoring program that helps English speaking adults improve their reading and writing skills so they can reach their potential as workers, parents, community members, and lifelong learners.
According to national and international surveys, approximately 1 in 6 adults in the United States have less than basic literacy skills. That estimate is even higher for Los Angeles County, with approximately 1 in 3 adults struggling with basic literacy skills.
Long Beach Public Library's LB Reads year-round adult literacy program connects community members with reading tutors to empower them to reach their goals.
This program is available to any English-speaking adult who wants help with basic reading and writing. There is no cost. Learners meet with their tutor once or twice a week at a time that works for you.
Literacy goals of this program are unique to each learner, but may include:
- Reading with your children
- Reading the news
- Obtaining a better job
- Registering to vote
- Overcoming literacy challenges
