Arts & Culture Lecture Series @ The Miller Room: "Many Islands, Many Stories -- Exploring Oceania Arts, Tradition, & Heritage with the Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum"
Join us for the launch our new Arts & Culture Lecture Series in honor of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
The Miller Special Collections Room at the Billie Jean King Main Library is pleased to launch our new Arts & Culture Lecture Series in honor of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Please join us on Saturday, May 22nd from 3:00-4:00pm for this inaugural online event, entitled "Many Islands, Many Stories: Exploring Oceania Arts, Tradition, & Heritage with the Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum," presented by PIEAM's Museum Director and Curator, Fran Lujan.
Scattered like stars across the night sky, there are over 20,000 islands in Oceania -- with a human history rich in ritual, narrative tradition, innovation, and art. These islands and ocean spaces transcend geographical and political boundaries, serving to connect Oceanic peoples across one ocean and one planet. Join us for an engaging afternoon as we explore the diverse cultures, histories, and artistic legacies of our Pacific Islander community here in Long Beach and further afield.
This free program will take place online via Zoom and registration is required to attend.
Can't make the event? Please still sign up -- an archived video link will be emailed out to registrants after the program for viewing at your leisure.
