LBPL Tech To-Go
Full Access MiFis are not available to check out at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience. The Student MiFis are still available.
You can borrow Chromebooks and MiFi hotspots! Check out one device or both for up to 3 weeks.
Patrons must be 18 years or older and have a full-access library card with fines under $20.
How It Works:
Step 1: Review the lending agreement.
The lending agreement is also available in Spanish, Tagalog, and Khmer.
Step 2: Make your reservation and a pickup appointment.
Reserve your device online or by calling your pickup Library location. Please make your reservation at least 1 day in advance.
Step 3: Bring your library card and arrive at the Library on your reserved pickup day.
Pick up your Tech To-Go devices at the check out desk.
Step 4: Check that all items are in the bag and working.
Let staff know immediately if something is missing or not working.
Frequently Asked Questions
Borrowers must be 18 years and older with a full-access library card and have less than $20 in overdue fees. If you don't have a card, you can easily sign up for one by bringing a photo ID and proof of your California address to any LBPL location.
Your parent or guardian will need to make a reservation and check out the device for you.
Tech To-Go devices can be picked up at any LBPL location.
Devices can be checked out for 3 weeks and they cannot be renewed. Once an item is overdue, the Library may deactivate the device. Items that are 14 days overdue will be billed at the full replacement cost.
Items must be returned during open hours to the same location where they were checked out.
Do not return these items in book drops. Items returned in the book drop or not returned directly to Library staff will result in suspension of device borrowing privileges.
Patrons can check out a Chromebook and MiFi together, just a Chromebook, or just a MiFi.
Please contact the Library immediately if your device is lost. Patrons will be responsible for the full replacement cost.
It is free to borrow a device! But, be sure to check out our overdue and lost policy in the lending agreement.
Full Access MiFis do not have a data limit. Student MiFis are limited to 500 MB of data per day.
The Library respects a person's right to privacy. We trust that our patrons will use the devices in a lawful manner that does not violate the Library's Code of Conduct. The Library does not view, use, share, or save any information from the use of the Chromebooks or the MiFis.
Google SafeSearch is turned on automatically on the Chromebooks.
The Student MiFis come from the manufacturer equipped with filters that are age-appropriate for high school students. Streaming sites like YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, social media sites, some email sites, and sites with adult content are blocked. More information about the Student MiFi filtering can be found here.
The Full Access MiFis are not equipped with filters.
The Student MiFis automatically turn off between the hours of 12:00 AM – 5:00 AM. They are also limited to 500 MB of data per day.
Disposable electronics wipes will be provided to patrons to wipe down equipment when they return Tech To-Go items.
