Your Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) card provides access to all 12 locations and our full digital offerings—enjoy the Library from home, or anywhere!
Browse and borrow books, movies, music. Reserve a computer, find homework help, access high-speed internet. Stream movies, download music and magazines, conduct research in our Digital Library, and access our collections of eBooks and audio.

Card Types
Access to all library resources, including computers, digital resources, and Tech To-Go devices. Check out up to a total of 50 items at a time.
How to Get Your Card
Fill out a library card application, then take it to the front desk at any Long Beach Public Library with a valid ID.

ID Requirements
Applicants must be able to show one of the following picture IDs:
- U.S. state driver’s license or ID card
- U.S. passport
- Military identification
- U.S. permanent resident card
- Work or student visa
- Foreign consulate ID card
- Foreign passport
and any of the following, if the picture ID does not include a current California mailing address:
- third-party created documentation like personal checks and car registration
- recent bill or statement, either paper or electronic
- property tax receipt
- rental/lease agreements or mortgage documents
- or any first-class mail with a current postmark
Applicants under 18 must obtain a parent or legal guardian's signature and the parent or guardian's picture ID number. Students with a California or school ID should also bring their ID.

All youth applications must include a parent or legal guardian's signature. Students with a California or school ID should also bring their ID.
Access to eBooks and eAudiobooks, streaming media, online courses, homework help, career and job assistance, and more.
If you already have a Long Beach Public Library card, your card already has full access to the digital resources collection and you do not need to apply for an eCard.
How to Get Your Card
You must be a Los Angeles County resident to apply for an eCard. Accounts with invalid addresses will be deleted from the system.
Register online for a Digital Resources Only eCard.

Access to the Long Beach Public Library's eBooks and eAudiobooks on Libby.
If you are a Los Angeles County resident or already have a Long Beach Public Library card, you already have access to our other card types and do not need to apply for a Books Unbanned eCard.
How to Get Your Card
Teens and young adults ages 13 to 19, living in the U.S. and outside of Los Angeles County, can sign up for Long Beach Public Library's Books Unbanned eCard by contacting LS-Books-Unbanned@longbeach.gov. Visit our Books Unbanned page for more information.
Agreements
- I accept responsibility for all items checked out on my card.
- I agree to pay for any items lost or damaged, fees and fines.
- I agree to report a lost or stolen card immediately and understand that I am responsible for all items on the card until it is reported lost to the Library.
- I agree to inform the Library of any changes to my contact information.
- I understand that my library card is for my use only and is not to be used by others, even my family.
- I understand that I must have my library card to borrow materials, access my record or use the Internet.
- I agree to follow all library policies and the Library's Rules of Conduct.
Library cards are for self-use only. This protects individuals from other's misuse of library cards.
The only exception is when the parent listed on a child's account checks out materials using that child's card. This is allowed because the parent listed is the responsible party for materials checked out on the child's card.
The reading and viewing activities of youth under 18 are the responsibility of parents and guardians. The Library does not assume that responsibility.
Borrowing Policies
Full Access cardholders may borrow up to 50 items at a time, with a maximum of:
- 15 DVDs
- 25 CDs
- 25 audiobooks
- up to 3 items on a specific subject
- 1 Chromebook
- 1 MiFi device
- 1 CA State Parks Pass

Return materials at any Long Beach Public Library.
Checkouts will automatically renew unless there is a hold on the item. You can manually renew your items by visiting your account via the online catalog, using the Library mobile app, by calling (562) 570-7500, or in-person at any Long Beach Public Library.
All items, excluding CA State Parks Passes, may be renewed up to 4 times unless there is a hold on the item.

Long Beach Public Library does not charge fines for overdue books and materials.
Fees will be incurred for materials that are lost (unreturned) or damaged and services including copying/printing, interlibrary loans, and facility rentals.
- Items that are 30 days overdue will move to a "lost" status and patrons will be billed for their replacement.
- Patrons are responsible for reconciling any lost items or fees on their library account by either returning the item(s) or paying the replacement fee.
- Patrons with a billed status over $20 on their library account fall out of good standing.
