Fly Long Beach Airport

Welcome to Long Beach

Meet Earl Daugherty, "King of Aviation" and Champion of Long Beach Airport

Earl S. Daugherty was a pioneer aviator and advocate for the creation of Long Beach Airport, which was established in 1923 and is California's oldest airport. Known locally as the "King of Aviation," our airfield was named in his honor and is still referred to as Daugherty Field by many pilots today.

Among his many accomplishments, he was also one of the earliest aerial photographers and filmmakers. Enjoy this video of the barnstorming legend flying over Long Beach in the 1920s.
