Master Composter Recycler (MCR) Program Launches This Fall!

The Department of Public Works Environmental Services Bureau (ESB) is launching a Master Composter Recycler (MCR) Program for Long Beach residents which begins this fall! This program is offered at no cost and will meet on Saturdays for 8 weeks at the Environmental Services Bureau office located on 2929 East Willow Street, Long Beach, CA 90806. Classes begin Saturday, September 24th through Saturday, November 5th from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. An additional reunion class will be scheduled prior to the end of the year. 

Through this program, community members will learn waste reduction strategies, recycling history and current practices, backyard composting and vermicomposting systems, and skills they can use to engage and educate their community. Classes will be taught through lectures, hands-on activities, games, interactive discussions, and optional field trips (when available). Community members who complete the program by attending at least 7 of the 8 required courses and completing 25 required volunteer hours will be certified as Master Composter Recyclers. 

At this time, this program is only open to Long Beach residents ages 18 and older. Applications for the Fall 2022 Program are now being accepted until Sunday, September 11, 2022. Space is limited. Apply now!
