Every three years, the State adopts new building codes to establish uniform standards for construction and maintenance. All architects, engineers, designers, developers, owners and contractors must be familiar with the codes in effect at the time of plan submittal. The Long Beach Department of Development Services, as required by State law, cannot approve projects that do not comply with the with the codes in effect at the time of plan submittal.
The Department’s Building and Safety Bureau will be conducting several public hearings to discuss the adoption of and amendment to the 2022 edition of the California Building Standards Code in accordance with state law.
To learn about the hearing process and other details, visit the Building Standards Code webpage.
