The Omnibus Housing Code Update intends to reduce constraints on housing development by adopting minor housing-related updates to the City’s Zoning Code. There are four focus areas:
- 2021-2029 Housing Element Implementation actions
- Adoption of specific provisions related to lessons learned from the 2023 Emergency Declaration on Housing and Homelessness
- Codifying new State laws (2023-2025)
- Minor, technical changes to clean up the code and remove inconsistencies, duplicate information or streamline housing permit processing
The Housing Omnibus Code Update is currently under a 30-day review period, which will close on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026. Community members can submit questions and comments on the proposed code changes to zoning@longbeach.gov. Please make sure to include the words “Housing Omnibus” in the subject line.
