Alejandra Ramirez
Alejandra Ramirez, Chair
Alejandra Ramirez is an architectural professional with over a decade of experience in architectural design, project management, and construction. She earned a Bachelor of Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Her expertise spans residential, educational and commercial architecture, contributing to community-focused development. Alejandra is committed to expanding housing opportunities and promoting equitable redevelopment resources. She actively engages with community partners to support affordable and sustainable development solutions for families and businesses in Long Beach. 
Eva Melgarejo
Eva Melgarejo, Vice Chair
Eva Melgarejo is a bilingual financial professional with extensive experience in community empowerment and minority lending. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications from California State University, Los Angeles and a master’s in financial planning from the American College of Finance. A licensed loan officer, she has helped over 300 families achieve homeownership during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eva serves on multiple business community chamber boards. She is a sought-after speaker at major industry events, advocating for financial equity and homeownership opportunities. 
Hakim Chambers
Hakim Chambers, Director

Hakim Chambers brings over 25 years of experience in strategic planning and program management, leading capital programs for public, private and educational institutions across the country. As the Program Director for Long Beach City College (LBCC), Hakim oversees a $2.3 billion bond program, including the successful passage of Measure AC in 2024 for $990 million. His work spans higher education, K-12, charter schools, university housing, athletic and recreation centers, public parks and emergency operations facilities. Prior to LBCC, Hakim served as Deputy Program Director for the $14.9 billion Los Angeles Community College District bond program—the largest of its kind in the nation—and held leadership roles in the modernization of both the District of Columbia and Detroit Public Schools systems. His leadership is defined by a commitment to integrity, community impact and delivering high-quality results.

Jasmine Esparza
Jasmine Esparza, Director
Jasmine Esparza is a dedicated real estate professional with over 11 years of industry experience, focusing on homeownership, housing affordability and accessibility. A graduate of California State University, Northridge, she currently serves as a director for the Long Beach Community Investment Company. Jasmine is also a business owner in downtown Long Beach, where she and her husband, Andrew, manage their company. She is passionate about fostering a thriving and inclusive community through her work in real estate and civic engagement. 
Richard Lewis
Richard Lewis, Director

Richard Lewis, Jr. brings more than 25 years of leadership in construction management and commercial real estate development, with a deep commitment to building stronger communities through thoughtful planning and public service. As executive director of real estate for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, Richard oversees the planning, development and stewardship of key facilities that support families and children in need, including projects in Long Beach and throughout the region. Since 2016, Richard has served on the City's Planning Commission, including four terms as chair, helping to guide smart and inclusive growth across the city. He has also contributed to numerous city task forces and nonprofit boards, reflecting a longstanding dedication to civic engagement and equity-focused development. Richard holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College. A proud Long Beach resident, he is a husband and father of two and remains deeply invested in the City’s future through both professional and volunteer roles.

Ruben Minjarez
Ruben Minjarez, Director

Ruben Minjarez grew up in the High Desert and attended Victor Valley High School. He continued his education at community college, focusing on general education courses, and later attended vocational school, where he trained in masonry and wildland firefighting. From 2007 to 2009, Ruben completed commercial deep-sea diver training at the Marine Technology Training Center. He went on to join the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Apprenticeship Program, completing his training from 2010 to 2014. Over the past decade, Ruben has continued his professional development, earning certifications in welding, crane operations, shipboard firefighting, OSHA safety and construction management. Ruben is currently active as chairman of the Long Beach Carpenters Mentoring Committee and serves as the Foreman/Steward Program lead. He works as a construction and maintenance diver for the Port of Los Angeles.

Woody Sides
Woody Sides, Director
Elwood (Woody) Sides has been a Long Beach resident for over 30 years and is a retired sales executive in the managed care and employee health benefits industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science in business from Florida State University. Woody has served on various nonprofit boards, including the Honorary Board of Governors for Leadership Long Beach. He remains actively involved in community initiatives, supporting programs that enhance the well-being and development of Long Beach residents.
