Permitting/Planning
What is the Commercial Corridor Façade Improvement Program (CCFIP)?
The CCFIP will provide financial assistance in the form of a grant to commercial property owners to significantly improve the appearance of the entire façade of their property that is visible from the street.
The Program will provide up to $25,000 in grants per storefront for buildings with multiple tenant spaces and free-standing commercial buildings with a single tenant. The cost for a multi-tenant building may not exceed $175,000. The Program doesn’t require matching funds from the participants. Applicants are free to select their contractors. The property owners shall be responsible for obtaining estimates for the façade improvements. The chosen contractor must comply with the City’s contractor requirements, such as the federal Davis-Bacon and California prevailing wage rates and contractor’s insurance/license requirements. The City will coordinate with property owners to obtain at least three (3) estimates for each rehabilitation project.
The contractor selected must obtain all applicable Planning and Building & Safety approvals and permits from the Community Development Department. Payments will be received in progress payments. Work must be completed within three (3) to six (6) months of award.
What kind of improvements are eligible?
Eligible façade improvements include (but are not limited to): painting, awnings, signage, lighting, address plaques and removal/relocation of security bars (requires other exterior enhancements) and/or artwork. All work performed under the provisions of this program shall meet all applicable development standards in the City’s adopted zoning, building and safety codes.
Who is eligible?
Commercial property owners located in the Place-Based Neighborhood Improvement Strategy (PBNIS) areas or the Racially and Ethnically Concentrated Areas of Poverty (R/ECAP) areas of Long Beach. Please see the maps below for eligibility.
