Construction Noise

Noise is a natural part of construction, but there is a time for it! Under the Long Beach Municipal Code, construction activities where a building or other related permit is required or was issued by the Building Official and not within the Harbor District may proceed during the following hours:

Weekdays : 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. to  6:00 p.m.

In addition to Long Beach Health and Human Services Department staff, the regulations may also be enforced by the Long Beach Police Department. A person found guilty of violating the regulations is subject to a fine or imprisonment, or both. The landowner, construction company owner, contractor, sub-contractor or employer may be a co-defendant whenever an employee is prosecuted for violating the noise regulations. If good cause is shown, the Health Department Noise Control Officer may grant a permit allowing work beyond the hours listed above. The City's Building Official may authorize emergency work to proceed at any time period.

For more information or to report an unusual noise during off hours, go to Noise Control Program.

For non-emergency noise-related issues, you may also contact the Long Beach Police Department at 562.435.6711.
