With the support from Mayor Garcia, Councilmember Uranga, Councilwoman Zendejas, Centro CHA and the City of Long Beach, the Latino Cultural Center of Long Beach Community Advisory Committee has begun the visioning process for a Latino Cultural Center that will serve as community hub for local and regional Latino arts, culture and history.
Background
Long Beach City Council allocated funds to support the planning and outreach efforts for the Latino Cultural Center as part of the City Budget. The first phase of the development of this Cultural Center is to establish an operating vision and feasibility plan, from which the facilities, management, and programming of a Cultural Center will be developed. The visioning process will be informed through input and facilitation from Centro CHA and Lord Cultural Services. Centro CHA is an experienced community engagement organization that will work with community leaders, a Steering Committee and Advisory Board to generate ideas for the operations of the Latino Cultural Center.
Centro CHA will implement a comprehensive community engagement process, providing a summary of the diverse perspectives of community members. Lord Cultural Services will provide education about the requirements of operating a cultural center and develop a feasibility plan. This process will take place through monthly meetings December 2020 to September 2021.
