The Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) was established in 1987 and was implemented by the Department of Health Services to reduce morbidity and mortality rates among low-income women and their infants.  CPSP provides health care services to Medi-Cal eligible pregnant women from the moment of conception up to two months postpartum.

Goals

  • To decrease the incidence of low birth weight in infants.
  • To improve the outcome of every pregnancy.
  • To give every baby a healthy start in life.
  • To lower health care costs by preventing catastrophic illness in infants and children.
