The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) Office of Youth Development, in partnership with The Nonprofit Partnership, has awarded $600,000 to 59 youth-serving summer projects throughout Long Beach this summer. Fifty-five small projects were funded through the Youth 100 Fund process, which provides mini-grants to formal and informal community groups implementing youth neighborhood engagement opportunities. An additional four projects, which are larger in scope, were funded through Intergenerational Youth Development Grants, which focus on programming for youth and their parents, caregivers and/or adult allies.

“The Measure US Youth Fund has been critical in supporting positive youth development these past two summers,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “We are confident the selected organizations will continue to empower and uplift Long Beach youth.”

The Youth 100 Fund awards amounts between $500 and $2,000 to nonprofits, school groups and youth/community leaders to provide summer programming for youth and emerging adults ages 8 to 24. Applications were evaluated by a panel of youth advocates that included the City’s Office of Youth Development Youth Advisory Council and local youth interns. Grantees included organizations that focus on arts education, academic readiness, mindfulness and more.

Intergenerational Grants were awarded $50,000 each to nonprofit organizations serving youth ages 8 to 24 and their families. Selected projects were required to take a whole-family approach to youth violence prevention and youth development. The panel, which included leaders from community-based organizations, The Nonprofit Partnership staff and youth leaders and their parents, selected projects that foster mentorship and address negative stereotypes and intergenerational connection.

The complete list of the awardees and their programs can be found at longbeach.gov/youthfund. Those interested in participating in any of the abovementioned summer programs should reach out to directly to the organizations.

Earlier this summer, seven projects were funded through the Youth Power PB Long Beach process, and in September 2022, the City awarded grants to more than 70 local groups and organizations, both of which were also funded by Measure US grants.

The Youth 100 Fund and Intergenerational Grants align with the goals of the Youth and Emerging Adults Strategic Plan. Funding for the Youth 100 Fund and Intergenerational Youth Development grants is provided by Measure US
