Long Beach, CA – To wrap-up its 2023 Healthy Long Beach Youth Summer Program, the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) Tobacco Education and Prevention and Green Light LB programs, in collaboration with community partners and local youth, will host the Healthy Long Beach Youth Summer Exhibition. The exhibition will take place on Thursday, July 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Ronald R. Arias Health Equity Center (6335 Myrtle Ave.) at Houghton Park.
“The significance of empowering our youth to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing is essential for our community. Our mission is to prevent smoking, vaping, and other harmful behaviors by educating them,’’ said Mayor Rex Richardson. “The Healthy Long Beach Summer Youth Program will provide our youth with invaluable tools to lead their peers towards healthier lifestyles.”
This free exhibition will showcase and celebrate the work youth ages 14 to 18 completed this summer through the Health Department’s Healthy Long Beach Youth summer program, which focused on increasing youth leadership skills and uplifting the youth voice in Long Beach. Community members and parents of the participating youth will have the opportunity to engage with program participants and hear their perspective on issues such as vaping and cannabis- and drug-impaired and distracted driving issues that affect young people every day. The Healthy Long Beach Youth will also debut stop motion public service announcements that they produced as part of an upcoming social media campaign.
Program collaborators include the Health Department’s Office of Youth Development, the Cambodian Association of America, Families in Good Health at St. Mary Medical Center, and the Coalition for a Smoke Free Long Beach. As space is limited, attendees are encouraged to register in advance via the link provided or by calling 562.570.4269.
This program was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
