The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) is pleased to announce it has been awarded a grant of $150,000 by the National Association of County and City Officials (NACCHO) for the Partnering for Vaccine Equity (PAVE) project.

The PAVE project aims to increase vaccination uptake and address disparities in influenza and COVID-19 coverage among racial and ethnic minority adults. From now until Nov. 6, the Health Department will be collecting data through community focus groups and an online Community Assessment Questionnaire. The survey, which is available in English, Spanish, Tagalog and Khmer, will provide the Health Department with insight into Long Beach residents’ thoughts, beliefs and barriers surrounding COVID-19 and influenza vaccination. The online Community Assessment Questionnaire is completely anonymous and takes approximately five minutes to complete. The survey is open to all community members and is available in multiple languages.

Over the next year, the Health Department will collaborate with Community Based Organizations to develop strategies that strengthen COVID-19 and influenza vaccine uptake. During this time, the Health Department has plans to enhance coordination of adult immunization services, such as improving timely and accurate vaccine administration and communication of vaccine recommendations, continue mobile vaccination services in hard-to-reach communities, enhance vaccine-related communications, and create an immunization coalition involving healthcare providers in the City.

The Health Department is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all community members through the promotion of health and disease prevention, the provision of quality health services and the protection of the public's health.
