Healthy Retail Program
We are working to increase access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods, using our CX3 Store Survey and Scorecard as a guide. With our partners, we will provide resources and technical assistance to at least 3 new corner stores located in SNAP-Ed eligible neighborhoods who participate in our voluntary Healthy Retail Program.

Communities of Excellence
The Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity Prevention (CX3) project takes a look at select low-income neighborhoods in the City of Long Beach to measure the nutrition environment and identify opportunities for improvement.
Understanding the Problem
- More than half of all adults are overweight or obese
- Likelihood of being overweight is influenced by the environment in which you live
- In California there are four times as many unhealthy food outlets as healthy outlets
- Low-income communities tend to have the poorest food choices
