RACIAL & HEALTH EQUITY TEAM (RHET)
To fulfill our Health Department’s mission, the Racial and Health Equity Team (RHET) commits to serving as partners who champion community interests, uplift collective needs, and address the social determinants of health while promoting data driven decision-making and equitable access to opportunities to live a healthy life.
The Racial and Health Equity Team focuses on building relationships with community-based organizations, community members, and key stakeholders both inside and outside the city to help close the gap in health outcomes in each respective impacted community.
Long Beach Health Equity & Safety Series
Join us for the opportunity to learn, connect and take part in meaningful conversations about health equity, reentry, youth well-being and community safety. This series will bring together residents, people with lived experience, community partners and local leaders to share perspectives, build connections and explore community-driven solutions.
Attendees can expect keynote speakers, personal stories, interactive discussions, breakout sessions and networking opportunities, with each event offering a different way to learn from and connect with the Long Beach community.

Racial and Public Health Equity Symposium: Cultivating the Public Health Equity Ecosystem
The Racial and Public Health Equity Symposium that will bring diverse communities together to bridge gaps and create connections to foster health equity across communities. The event will share best practices and strategies in responding to the findings raised in the Community Health Needs Assessments and will create learning communities that will help train and build capacity in our community leaders, students, city employees, public health practitioners, researchers, academics, and sponsors and foundations.

The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services has developed a Health Equity Investment Framework that will bring an equity lens to grants and awards made through the Long Beach Recovery Act, including grant funds received from the Center for Disease Control. The framework ensures that context, including Long Beach’s history, is considered when awarding money to organizations, and that the funds are structured in a way that increases health and racial equity.
Racial and Health Equity Data Hub
The Racial and Health Equity Data Hub presents an easy-to-understand look at data related to chronic diseases, communicable diseases, maternal and child health, and mental health in Long Beach as well as some of the social determinants of health such as safe spaces (public safety), economic equity and housing and homelessness. The interactive site allows users to view indicators by race/ethnicity, gender, geography, and year. The hub also centralizes other City dashboards that offer additional health-related data, including the Long Beach Recovery Act, Community Health Assessment, HIV Data, Homelessness, and Community Crisis Response. Additionally, the hub will showcase data published in the City’s Mi Vida Cuenta Latinx Health Equity report and Filipino Community Health Needs Assessment, as well as data collected through the forthcoming Cambodian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, Black, and LGBTQIA2S+ Community Needs Assessment projects.
