YOUTH FUND

AN INVESTMENT IN THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF LONG BEACH

The Youth Fund was established in 2021 using funds from Measure US, an oil production tax passed by Long Beach voters in November 2020 to support public health, climate change, and youth development initiatives.Prioritizing communities most impacted by crime and poverty, the fund supports youth and youth-serving organizations, empowering them to create meaningful change. It also drives the implementation of the Youth and Emerging Adults Strategic Plan, a citywide commitment to fostering equity, opportunity, and growth for Long Beach’s next generation.

Youth Power Participatory Budgeting Long Beach

The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Office of Youth Development, in collaboration with The Nonprofit Partnership and the Invest in Youth Coalition, anchored by Khmer Girls in Action, proudly presents Youth Power PB Long Beach. This groundbreaking participatory budgeting process empowers youth to shape their community by voting on how public funds are spent on summer projects that directly benefit young people. Through this initiative, youth serving organizations can receive grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 to support programs that align with the Youth and Emerging Adults Strategic Plan, fostering equity, leadership, and meaningful change citywide.

What is Participatory Budgeting?

Participatory Budgeting (PB) is a democratic process where youth, ages 12-26, collaborate to decide how to allocate funding to projects that benefit their communities. This process strengthens civic engagement, promotes leadership, and ensures that young people have a real say in shaping the programs and resources they need to thrive.

The PB Process:

  1. Idea Collection: Youth submit project ideas that address youth needs.

  1. Project Development: Youth leaders work with youth serving organizations to develop ideas into actionable summer projects.

  1. Voting: Youth vote on the projects they believe will have the greatest impact.

  1. Implementation: Winning projects receive funding and are brought to life!
