Direct Deposits for Housing Assistance Payments
We appreciate your continued partnership in providing safe and affordable housing to our Long Beach community members through the Housing Authority's Housing Choice Voucher and other housing assistance programs. In an effort to streamline payment processing, improve efficiency, and reduce the administrative burden on both housing providers and the Housing Authority, we are transitioning to a mandatory direct deposit system for housing assistance payments. Starting from January 1, 2024, we will no longer mail paper checks to property owners and agents. Housing assistance payments will be exclusively distributed via direct deposit into the bank account you specify.
Note: Housing providers who are currently signed up for direct deposit will not need to take any action. Your payments will continue to be deposited into your designated bank account as usual.
However, we understand that there may be certain exceptional circumstances where a housing provider may require paper checks as a reasonable accommodation. In such cases, paper checks can only be issued upon the approval of a reasonable accommodation request. These checks will be available for pickup only at the Housing Authority office.
To sign up for direct deposit, for those who are not already enrolled, please follow these steps:
- Complete the online Direct Deposit Setup Form: You can also request a paper copy of the Direct Deposit Setup Form by contacting our office directly. This form is necessary to provide us with your banking information and consent to the direct deposit process.
- Provide Bank Account Information: Fill out the form with your bank account details, including the bank name, account number, and routing number. Ensure that the information is accurate to prevent any payment processing delays.
- Verification and Confirmation: After receiving your completed form, we will verify the provided information and set up direct deposit for your housing assistance payments. You will receive a confirmation once this process is complete.
We look forward to your continued participation in our voucher programs and are confident that this change will ultimately be beneficial in streamlining the efficiency and security of our housing assistance payment process.
