How Can I help Reduce Speeding in My Neighborhood?
As part of the City of Long Beach’s Safe Streets Action Plan, the Transportation Mobility Bureau has launched the “Safe Drivers Make Better Neighbors” campaign. In addition to speed limit reductions on select streets, roadway safety projects and increased coordination with traffic enforcement, the Safe Drivers campaign will offer interested residents with a complimentary yard sign to encourage. safe driving behavior in their neighborhoods.
You are invited to join the City’s campaign to encourage safer driving in our community and raise awareness with a complimentary yard sign of your choice. Designed to bring more awareness about speeding and to encourage people driving to share the road, the signs remind people driving to slow down for kids, seniors, people crossing, people biking, and other vulnerable road users. The double-sided signs measure 18x24 inches and come with all the hardware you need. Signs are delivered contact-free to your residence. Sign up below!
Speeding is Never Worth the Risk
The Safe Streets Long Beach initiative aims to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by 2026. The Safe Streets Action Plan, which was adopted in July 2020, sets Long Beach on a clear path to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries Citywide.
People driving too fast for conditions are one of the leading causes of traffic collisions in Long Beach. Too many of which result in someone being seriously injured or killed. The human body stands little chance in an impact with a car, essentially a two-ton metal box. The chances of a driver killing a pedestrian in a collision increase substantially with higher speeds. Encouraging drivers to slow down, especially where pedestrian activity is high, is critical in achieving safer streets.
