At 2:16 a.m., fire units responded to reports of a fire alarm with smoke at a 2 story apartment unit on the 1500 block of Magnolia Ave. At 2:22 a.m., Engine 3 arrived onscene at reported "nothing showing, investigating."
At 2:24 a.m., as firefighters accessed the second floor of the apartment building, they noted light smoke coming from the involved unit. Firefighters forced access into the unit and encountered heavy, black smoke. Firefighters initiated fire attack and during primary search operations, they found 1 victim, a confirmed fatality. The individual, an adult male, was found in the bedroom.
The apartment sustained heavy smoke damage throughout with fire damage noted in the bedroom. The fire was extinguished at approximately 2:30 a.m. 27 firefighters were onscene of this incident. Currently, Long Beach Fire Investigators are onscene with Long Beach Police as they work to determine cause and origin of the fire. No other residents were displaced and no other reports of injuries.
