Step 1

THIS STEP IS MANAGED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT


Completion of a City of Long Beach job application is required and can be completed and submitted online 24 hours a day when the filing period is open.

The filing period is generally open for ONE WEEK, and applicants are encouraged to complete a job interest card with the Fire Department in order to be notified directly when the application filing period is open.

Application filing date:  Monday, December 1, 2025, and closes Thursday, December 19, 2025, at 11:59 PM.

Entry-Level Firefighter Examination Requirement:

Completion of the entry-level firefighter examination is required. Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete their exam through the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) before the application filing period opens.

Testing Deadline:

All required testing must be completed by December 26, 2025 

Valid California State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification and/or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Certification will be required.
