The City of Long Beach Fleet has regularly received recognition from national publications such as Government Fleet magazine and the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA).  Fleet Services Bureau prides itself on having a mentality of always improving, changing and growing that leads the fleet to making innovative adjustments and additions.

Heavy Duty Trucking Top Green Fleets: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

Featured in Heavy-Duty Trucking magazine, this award recognizes a growing focus on electric trucks and renewable fuels and rewards organizations that lay out their sustainability goals. Long Beach Fleet had the first municipal refuse truck in the nation with a Cummins ISL G Near Zero natural gas engine and transitioned its entire aging fleet of street sweepers to natural gas.

100 Best Fleets (NAFA): 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012

The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas program recognizes and rewards peak-performing fleet operations in the Americas for 20 years. The program identifies and encourages ever-increasing levels of performance improvement and innovation in the fleet industry. Criteria for this award include the use of technology and information, collaboration, creativity, efficiency, staff development, and resource stewardship.

NAFA Green Fleet Awards: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

The NAFA Green Fleet Award recognizes peak-performing fleet sustainability efforts and honors fleets that have enhanced practices to make a positive impact on the surrounding community. This award also recognizes organizations that implement unique and inventive programs for their green initiatives.

Government Fleets Magazine, Leading Government Fleets: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024

The honor is awarded based on leadership, competitiveness, efficiency, planning for the future, and overcoming challenges. Long Beach Fleet continued operations in towing and maintenance during the pandemic. Management also enacted measures to protect employees, including teleworking, disinfecting procedures, vehicle and parts drop-off procedures, staggered schedules, online training, and flexibility with family care.

  • In 2024, named #1 in the nation by Government Fleet magazine, making the City of Long Beach a Top 10 Fleet in the Nationwide Leading Fleet competition for the 8th year running.
