Monthly Cost of Gas: Commodity Charge Per Month

The City of Long Beach's cost of gas is calculated using two pricing portfolios:

• Core customers
• Non-Core customers

These two portfolios may be comprised of any one or a combination of three increments of supply as follows:

• Interstate supplies delivered into the Southern California Gas Company's intrastate pipeline system,
• Gas storage withdrawals, and
• Any local gas delivered directly to Long Beach Energy Resources Department's pipeline system.

For more detailed information on how the commodity charge is calculated, refer to the specific rate schedules that are listed on our Gas Rates page. The Core Commodity Charge applies to those customers billed under Rate Schedule 1, 2, 3 and/or 5. The Non-Core Commodity Charge applies to those customers billed under Rate Schedule 4 and/or 7.

The Long Beach Energy Resources Department measures our customers' gas consumption in CCF's (hundred cubic feet) and bills in therms, according to the rates set forth in Long Beach Energy Resources Department's Gas Rate Schedule. The CCF's measured are converted to therms by using the BTU (British thermal unit) factor for each billing month. BTU factors for the previous 15-month period are listed below:
