Jobs vs. Internships
Internships and jobs have some key differences. Internships usually last a few weeks or months and are focused on completing a specific project or learning new skills. Jobs, on the other hand, are usually year-round and come with a paycheck. But there are other things to consider when deciding between the two.
Job and Internship FAQ
- What is an internship? An internship is like a school project where you get to learn new skills and gain experience in a particular field. You’ll usually have a mentor who’ll guide you and teach you valuable things along the way.
- What is a job? A job is a means of earning money, and it’s not always meant to teach you everything you need to know about a particular career.
- Will I get paid in an internship? Most of our internships aren’t paid, but some do offer a small stipend. If you’re curious about more details, just ask a Youth Specialist.
- Can this internship turn into a job? It’s not a sure thing, but many students have made their internship into a full-time gig.
- Why should I get a non-paid internship when I can do the same job for money? Internships are often found in places where young people might not have the job experience yet, like hospitals or law offices. If you’re looking to make money without any work experience, a job might be a better fit for you.
- What types of internships do you provide at LBWIN Youth Career Services Center? We provide internships in all sorts of places, from customer service to design firms. We can help you figure out if there’s a particular job or career that’s right for you. We’ll do everything we can to make sure you have the best opportunities available.
