Just one week after Long Beach officials broke ground on a 95-unit affordable housing complex in Central Long Beach, they returned to the neighborhood to start work on another 48 below-market-value units.

Mayor Robert Garcia, along with representatives from the offices of Vice Mayor Dee Andrew and L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn, gathered at 1836 Locust Ave. on Wednesday, March 27, to break ground on the new complex, Vistas del Puerto.

“We are committed to building more affordable housing, and this project is another great step towards meeting our goals in our Everyone Home Long Beach report,” Garcia said, referring to the document that a city task force published last year, which laid out targets Long Beach needs to meet in order to adequately address homelessness in the city.
