Grow Long Beach

The Grow Long Beach initiative outlines the City's vision for advancing economic development by diversifying and building an economy where everyone thrives, bolstering key industry sectors and building a sustainable local economy.

Goals for the City's Grow Long Beach initiative include:

  • Building the Transportation, Logistics and Supply Chain
  • Unleashing the Creative Economy Through Music, Athletics, Tourism and Hospitality
  • Driving Economic Development Through Healthcare and Education
  • Building a Climate-Forward Economy
In January 2023, Mayor Rex Richardson outlined key strategies to grow the local economy and identify pathways to transition from oil reliance. In March 2023, the City Council directed City staff to develop strategies, policies and benchmarks to propel the growth of key sectors; secure Long Beach's financial future; support recruitment, growth and retention in the city's economy; and  expand the city's tax base and good paying jobs to offset oil production revenues.
 
Held annually, Mayor Richardson's Grow Long Beach presentation delivers major updates on the city's economic progress.

Grow Long Beach Economic Blueprint

The Grow Long Beach Economic Blueprint, formerly known as the Economic Development Blueprint and Blueprint 2.0, advances a new, 10-year vision for more inclusive and sustainable economic opportunities for workers, investors and entrepreneurs in the City of Long Beach. The document was developed with extensive community input through 25 roundtables and 20 study sessions led by the City's Economic Development Commission in collaboration with City staff.
