Councilmember Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie
Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie serves as a Councilmember on the Long Beach City Council representing the diverse neighborhoods and communities of the Ninth Council District. Elected in 2022, Dr. Ricks-Oddie is the Chair of the Budget Oversight Committee, Vice Chair of the Government Operations and Efficency Committee, and Vice Chair of the Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach. She also serves on the Housing and Public Health, I710 Oversight, and City Charter Amendment Committees. Additionally, Councilmember Dr. Ricks-Oddie also represents the City of Long Beach on the Gateway Cities Council of Governments and the Southern California of Government 91/605/405 Corridor Cities Committee.
Raised in the Midwest in a family that modeled community service, Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie brings her personal and professional experience, along with a commitment to building a thriving community for all to her role as a councilmember. For more than a decade, she has been actively engaged in Long Beach as a civic leader, including serving on the North Long Beach Neighborhood Alliance, Uptown Property and Business Improvement District board, Citizens Police Complaint Commission, and as Chair of the Long Beach Planning Commission. She understands the value of advocacy, engagement, and effective representation and has witnessed first-hand the impact policy decisions have on people’s lives.
As a public health professional, Dr. Ricks-Oddie has devoted her career to science, research and data analytics. She earned her Ph.D. in Epidemiology from UCLA and now serves as director of the Center for Statistical Consulting at University of California Irvine, focusing on Biostatistics and Epidemiology.
Councilmember Dr. Ricks-Oddie lives with her husband Keith and their two children in the Deforest Park Neighborhood of North Long Beach.
