Councilmember Austin Celebrates Scherer Park Community Center Grand Reopening!

Release Date: 2024-09-16

On Tuesday, August 14th, Councilmember Al Austin II, alongside the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, proudly hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the beautifully renovated Scherer Park Community Center.

The project brought a host of improvements to the center, including:

  • Energy-efficient windows, doors, lighting, and HVAC systems
  • A refreshed look with new paint, graphics, and signage
  • Enhanced park restrooms with improved safety features and accessibility
  • Upgraded ADA accessibility throughout the center and parking lot

"After three years of dedicated community collaboration, it's incredibly rewarding to welcome everyone back to this revitalized space," said Councilmember Austin. "These enhancements will ensure that our community can enjoy this center for decades to come."

The event was made even more special with the presence of youth from the Long Beach Boys & Girls Club and Fairfield Family YMCA, who received backpacks to kick off the school year on a positive note.
