Construction Alert: Bicycle System Gap Closure to Affect Pacific AvenueRelease Date: 2016-02-08
Construction crews are currently busy throughout the Wrigley, Los Cerritos and Bixby Knolls Areas working on a crucial bicycle infrastructure project.
Pacific Avenue will be affected by the Bicycle System Gap Closure & Improved L.A. River Bike Path Access project. This infrastructure project will improve roads in council districts 1, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Looking to improve an 8.5-mile bike corridor through the City of Long Beach, the project will improve safety, visibility, and access to existing bike paths and will create new linkages for increased fluidity.
In parts of the Seventh District, additions will include two roundabouts on Pacific Avenue, one at Bixby Road and one at 36th Street, new bike lanes will be established, and a specific community concern will be addressed after months of dialogue with residents - the need for a traffic light at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Wardlow Road.
The roundabouts should be completed by April and the traffic signal should be completed by July. Construction began on February 1st and is slated to be completed within 120 working days.
