Councilwoman Megan Kerr

Councilwoman Megan Kerr was sworn into office on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Ever devoted to civic improvement, Megan was an active volunteer and community advocate before winning a seat on the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education in 2014. Having served two terms on the School Board, she now continues to bring her leadership, work ethic, and passion for public service to the critical work of shaping a strong, sustainable future for Long Beach.

A lifelong resident, Councilwoman Megan Kerr has long engaged with local organizations and nonprofits that uplift women and children, support youth education and leadership training around equality and justice, and work to preserve local historic sites. As Councilwoman she has led and supported policy efforts to provide resources and solidarity for the LGBTQ+ community, to streamline small business practices, to support literacy and access to information, and to work towards safer streets and a cleaner, healthier environment. Councilwoman Kerr was proud to play a key role in ushering the long-awaited dedication of 48 acres of land known as Willow Springs Park as park space in perpetuity, and is committed to continuing to advocate for increased access to open and natural spaces within our city. She serves as Chair of the Mobility, Ports, & Infrastructure Committee, Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, and member of the Arts, Culture, & Tourism Committee.

Born and raised in Bixby Knolls, Megan attended St. Anthony High School and Long Beach City College before receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Cal Poly Pomona. She and her husband Andy, a North Long Beach native, have been married for 30 years and proudly raised three now-grown Long Beach natives of their own.
