Long Beach Public Library Summer Reading Program 2016

Every year, more than 5,000 Long Beach residents participate in LBPL's Summer Reading Program.  Reading over the summer is crucial for students so they may arrive back at school in September prepared to tackle the next grade. Students who read 20 minutes a day, or just five books during the summer, will not experience the dreaded "summer slide" loss of reading skills.  LBPL's Summer Reading Program is fun for the whole family. 

In addition to the LBPL's Summer Reading Program, each library location will host a series of special events, featuring comedy and magic, exotic animals, wacky puppet shows, balloon and bubble wonders, Musical Theatre West performances and much more. Check out what's coming to the Los Altos and Brewitt Library: 

Animal Magic
An action-packed magic show with live exotic pets!
Magician John Abrams will inspire and entertain in this comedy-magic-animal show. 
July 8 at 1 p.m. - Brewitt Library
Auguest 4 at 12 p.m. - Los Altos Library 

 Annie Banannie
The famous Ballon Storyteller leads us on another goofy adventure,
"The Tortoise and the Hare - In Space!" 
July 14 at 12 p.m. - Los Altos Library 
 
Best Bubble Show
Experience the magic of bubbles! See square bubbles, triangular bubbles,
bubbles that bounce and float inside other bubbles. Even step inside a giant bubble!

 Buster Ballon
A wild and wacky mix of comedy, mind boggling magic, and the
 most amazing ballon twisting you have ever seen! 
July 22 at 1 p.m. - Brewitt Library 

 David Skale and he Comdey Magician 
Join us for two times the fun and enjoy jaw-dropping magic and
gut-busting comedy from the fabulous comedy magician, David Skale! 
July 28 at 12 p.m. - Los Altos Library 
August 5 at 1 p.m. - Brewitt Library 

 Fantastick Patrick
A show unlike any other. As the One Man Circus Band,
Fantastick Patrick does it all to perfection. 
August 18 at 12 p.m. - Los Altos Library 
August 19 at 1 p.m. - Brewitt Library 

 "Let the Game Begin" Puppet Show
Join wild and wacky puppeteer Richard Woloski to find out what
his puppets are up to now! The Animal-Lympics are beginning -- who will be the winner?!
July 21 at 12 p.m. - Los Altos Library 
July 29 at 1 p.m. - Brewitt Library 

 Long Beach Symphony Orchestra's "Petting Zoo"
Learn how orchestra instruments make different sounds, and fit into
the orchestra, and enjoy the unique opportunity to sample yourself! 
August 11 at 12 p.m. - Los Altos Library 
August 12 at 1 p.m. - Brewitt Library 

 Musical Theatre West presents "We Tell Their Story"
Professional actors demostrate how real-life people and historical events
are transformed into musicals in this fun and educational performance.
June 30 at 12 p.m. - Los Altos Library
