Save the Date! Long Beach to Host Festive Street Parade in Celebration of Día de Los Muertos

Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach and the Office of First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas proudly present the eighth annual Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Celebration – a free, family-friendly celebration of life in remembrance of loved ones who have died. This year’s celebration will include the City’s festive street parade on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Downtown Long Beach, coinciding with an Arte y Ofrendas Festival at Rainbow Lagoon that will go well into the evening, hosted by Grand Parade Día De Los Muertos Inc.
The Día de los Muertos Parade will feature grand marshals (to be announced in the coming weeks), a variety of culturally rich performances and floats, and participation from various City departments and community partners, among other elements. The parade will commence at the intersection of Pine Avenue and East Third Street, then travel down Pine Avenue to East Shoreline Drive. The parade will also stream live on the ABC7 Los Angeles’ digital channel followed by an on-air broadcast on ABC7 Los Angeles Sunday, Nov. 5, at 10:30 a.m. The parade will culminate at Rainbow Lagoon, located on Shoreline Drive between Linden Avenue and Shoreline Village Drive, where the Arte y Ofrendas Festival, a family-friendly event featuring arts and crafts, music and entertainment, and food and beverage offerings, will take place from noon to 10 p.m.
“Long Beach’s annual Día de Los Muertos Grande Parade is back honoring a celebrated tradition of life, family and Latinx culture,” said First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas. “This year’s Grand Parade will be filled with festive cultural attire, decorated floats and performances that will delight viewers and celebrate our communities, followed by the traditional Día De Los Muertos Festival produced by Grand Parade Día De Los Muertos Incorporated.”
Día de Los Muertos is deeply rooted in the traditions and cultures of the indigenous communities of Mexico and Latin America. As family, friends and neighbors continue those traditions in ways that are most meaningful in their lives, the City encourages the entire community to come together for this grand celebration in Downtown Long Beach.
