Park Investments for District One

Release Date: 2026-05-26

Item 27 County Measure A Park Investment Proposed Across Long Beach was brought forward by the City of Long Beach in May 2026. This major investment is expected to allocate more than $17.3 million in regional park projects across several Long Beach neighborhoods, using funds from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) program.

The funding is provided by Los Angeles County’s Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure A program, approved by voters in 2016 to support the repair, expansion, and preservation of parks and recreational facilities across the county. The City’s agenda item states that the annual allocation funds projects designed to create healthier, safer, and more accessible public spaces for both residents and visitors.

Councilwoman Mary Zendejas voted in support of approving a list of investments for city park and recreation improvements across Long Beach. The proposed funding will facilitate upgrades, park renovations, wetland expansion, community center enhancements, and improved recreational facilities.

Among the proposed investments are the following key projects locaed in Downtown Long Beach and the greater District One community, represented by Councilwoman Zendejas:

  • Drake Chavez Park Connection - $3,750,000
  • The Chavez Dog Park - $325,000
  • Chavez Park Community Center Improvement - $185,000
  • The Long Beach Senior Center - $1,900,000

As noted in the proposed projects, these projects support Elevate ’28, Long Beach’s plan to invest over $1 billion in citywide infrastructure and mobility improvements. The new park projects will build on these efforts and help make recreational spaces and open areas more accessible for everyone in Long Beach.
