The goal of the Technical Assistance Program is to provide free technical assistance to equity applicants and equity licensees to help them acquire the knowledge and/or skills necessary to start, sustain and grow a viable cannabis business in Long Beach. This program is currently funded by cannabis equity grant funds awarded to the City of Long Beach by the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). Want to own a cannabis business but don’t know where to start? You will join a group of like-minded individuals in a virtual classroom setting and learn from experts on how to start a cannabis business. 

The Cannabis Entrepreneurship Academy is an 8-week online business planning course on how to start a cannabis business. The goal of the academy is to help Equity Applicants decide whether to pursue business ownership in cannabis, get organized with one’s business start-up, and prepare a winning business plan to participate in the highly competitive cannabis market.

Topics covered during each session of the academy include:

  • Planning for your supply chain
  • Financial planning
  • Forming a business entity
  • Developing products and services tailored to individual
  • Marketing

Summer 2021 Cannabis Entrepreneurship Academy

  • When does the Academy take place?

    The 2021 summer academy is scheduled to start on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 9am – 11am PST and will continue for the following eight consecutive weeks:

    • Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 9am – 11am PST
    • Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 9am – 11am PST
    • Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 9am – 11am PST
    • Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 9am – 11am PST
    • Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 9am – 11am PST

  • Who is teaching the Academy?

    The City’s Economic Development Department has selected two partners, Long Beach Cannabis Commerce Council and Fuller Management, who will each design and deliver the Entrepreneurship Academy.

  • Who is eligible to participate in the Academy?

    At the moment, only verified Equity Applicants are eligible to participate in the academy. Please visit the Office of Cannabis Oversight webpage for more information on how to get verified.

    UPDATE: As of June 1, 2021, the registration form to sign up for the academy is closed, as all available spots have been filled.

  • What is expected from participants during the Academy?

    Academy participants are expected to attend all sessions of the 8-week cohort. During this interactive course participants can additionally expect regular assignments to assist in the understanding of the course.

  • Do I have to pay for the academy?

    No! There is no cost to an equity applicant to attend the academy. The cost of attending the academy is paid for by equity grant funding awarded to the City of Long Beach by GO-Biz.

  • What can I expect after I complete the program?

    Each participant that completes the Academy will walk away with an actionable business plan and presentation. Graduates of the Entrepreneurship Academy that decide to continue their journey of starting a cannabis business may benefit from additional one-on-one advisory services that will be made available to all after the Academies are completed.

  • How will I be notified to sign up for upcoming programs?

    After filling out the interest form interested candidates can expect to hear from the City regarding upcoming program opportunities.


One-on-One Advisory Services

One-on-one advisory services will assist equity applicants and licensees in one or more of the following priority areas:

  • Site Location and Lease Negotiation
  • Assessing Financial Needs
  • Finance and Accounting Support
  • Regulatory Compliance Support

The City is currently reviewing Request For Proposals (RFPs) to select vendors that will provide one-on-one advisory services to Cannabis Entrepreneurs on behalf of the City.
